Question: What the benefits of using home child care?

Answer:
-The daycare homes are licensed through an agency.
-Flexible hours. Home providers may help parents who work irregular hours
-Child care setting within a warm family atmosphere
-Convenient locations - may be close to home, school, work
-Children of age groups from 0 to 12 cared for together by one home provider
-Children can have the same care provider for many years
-Home providers meet established standards through regular monitoring
-Parents can access government subsidies to assist with fee payments.

Question: Do you serve in my area?

Answer:
We serve in various locations in Toronto. Please contact our office to find out the closest day care homes to your home or work/school area.

Question: What is your admission procedure?

Answer:
You will be invited to visit the daycare home and fill out the application and daycare contract. If you have subsidized child care, we will contact Children's Services to obtain approval for admission. If you have a fee, a two-week deposit and monthly fee must be made prior to your start date.

Question: How do I apply for subsidized child care?

Answer:
Call Children's Services at 416-392-KIDS (5437). Users of the TTY (teletypewriter for the deaf) can call 416-338-1160. The following information will be needed to apply for subsidy: Income tax return, Notice of Assessment, and Family Income shown on your most recent Canada Child Tax Benefit Statement if you are receive Family Income. Children's Services will place on the waiting if you qualify.

Question: Do I have to pay for vacation days, sick days, absent days, and statutory holidays?

Answer:
Payment is required for all statutory holidays and when your child takes vacation, stays home due to illness, or is absent from the daycare home. Payment is, however, not required when your home provider is unavailable to work and your child does not need backup care.

Question: Is there a waiting list?

Answer:
Child care placement is done based on availability in your home/work/school area, your child's age group and child-provider compatibility.

Question: How can I become a home provider?

Answer:
If you are interested in working in your own home, developing your own child care program in consultation with our home visitors and parents, providing a safe and nurturing child care environment for children, and helping parents and children, please contact our office at (416) 652-1384 for further information. As our home provider, you will receive ongoing support and informational workshops that will enhance the quality of your child care home.
